Construction Quote Format: What to Include on Every Estimate

A reusable construction quote format for small contractors: header, scope, pricing, tax, validity, exclusions, and allowances.

A strong construction quote format answers one question for the client: "What am I paying for, and what happens next?" Here is a practical structure small contractors can reuse on every job.

1. Header and contact details

Company name, license (if applicable), phone, email, and quote date. Match the layout in our general contractor quote template.

2. Scope of work by area or phase

Group line items by room, trade, or phase (demo, rough-in, finishes). For trade-specific jobs, start from a renovation quote template or subcontractor quote template and adjust scope.

3. Pricing, tax, and validity

Show quantity, unit price, subtotal, tax, and total. Add quote validity (e.g. 30 days) and payment terms so clients know how long the price holds.

4. Exclusions and allowances

List what is not included and call out allowances for fixtures or finishes the client will select later. Clear exclusions prevent the disputes that hurt reviews and referrals.
